About the course

Amazon Web Services (AWS) offers study paths, exposure to Amazon culture, and opportunities for networking. The purpose of this course is to provide you practical cloud knowledge with hands-on building experience and open up career opportunities. Those who wish are also offered the opportunity to completing an industry certification after completing the study units. Along with the study path, AWS also offers exposure to Amazon culture and opportunities for networking, mentoring, or career related advice.

Feel free to join, whether you are new to the field, changing fields, an experienced technologist or an enthusiastic networker!

What is Amazon Web Services (AWS) about?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. AWS is continually accelerating its pace of innovation to invent entirely new technologies our customers can use to transform their business.

Chances are you are also using AWS cloud infrastructure in some form. For example, if you are using Netflix, Pinterest, played Epic Game’s Fortnite, or have watched Formula 1 races or Bundesliga football matches, you have used a service that runs on the AWS platform in the cloud.

How is this course structured?

In the lectures you will learn about the cloud, its technologies, and some of the services AWS offers. These will be delivered with industry experts and practical use cases. We also offer an optional practical exercise where you can experience cloud technologies through learning by doing, and see how they work together to deliver real-world use cases. Learning by doing approach gives you valuable experience on how to build and break things in the cloud, which will help you understand the concepts and retain the information better.

At the end of this course you have the opportunity to complete the AWS Solutions Architect certification, which is a well known IT industry certification. It will show to cloud professionals, recruiters and potential future employers, that you have a certain level of cloud knowledge and skills, and that you have demonstrated that by passing a certification exam. You can also participate in the course without the goal of obtaining the certification but getting hands-on experience with a project you implement.

What topics will be covered?

The learning path this course provides includes:

- Introduction to the cloud, and AWS.
- The basics of cloud services. The exercise track will cover these basics with a workshop.
- Data Security in the Cloud. The exercise track will provide a workshop surrounding cloud services information security.
- Serverless Architectures with a hands-on workshop about serverless features of cloud services in the exercise track.
- Databases in the Cloud. The exercise track allows you to dive deeper into database services in AWS.
- Artifical Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). In the exercise track you are able to play with various AWS machine learning services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centers globally. Millions of customers—including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies—are using AWS to lower costs, become more agile, and innovate faster. Gartner has recognized AWS as a Magic Quadrant Leader for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services for the 12th straight year.

What is AWS Solutions Architect - Associate certification and what is the benefit for me to obtain it?

AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate showcases knowledge and skills in AWS technology, across a wide range of AWS services. The focus of this certification is on the design of cost and performance optimized solutions, demonstrating a strong understanding of the AWS Well-Architected Framework. This certification can enhance the career profile and earnings of certified individuals and increase your credibility and confidence in stakeholder and customer interactions. With this project, you can obtain the AWS Solutions Architect - Associate certification free of charge.

Who will be teaching the course and labs?

The sessions will be taught by AWS’s Solution Architects, who are helping the customers on a daily basis with their challenges. They architect, build and document new solutions for a broad range of customers for cloud migration, hybrid cloud architectures and application modernization initiatives. They also write white-papers and blogs, lead workshops, stream content and speak at public events. You will have the opportunity to learn not only about the AWS technologies and services from the Solution Architects, but also how does the theory translate into practice, what kind of job opportunities there are in the industry, how to get them and what the job looks like in real life.
